The Environmental Permitting Regulations 2008 (EPR) came into force in April 2008. It was announced in 2007 that the permits issued as new template Pollution Prevention and Control (PPCs) and pre-existing Waste Management Licenses (WMLs) would convert to environmental permits, in accordance with the EPR along a single approach to regulation. The implementation of the EPR 2008 has had no significant impact on the operation of WRG’s existing facilities.

The Environment Agency (EA) is the lead regulator for the Company’s operating permits in England and Wales, and SEPA is the equivalent body in Scotland. The EA inspects waste facilities and deals with its enforcement of non-conformances in line with published policy. Statutory notices are identified within the table below:
